Birds in the Bronx
There is wildlife in NYC. We've seen Peregrine Falcons, but we've never been close enough to get a picture. Since we set up a birdfeeder on the back terrace, we are visited regularly by sparrows, nuthatches, chickadees, woodpeckers, bluejays, cardinals and of course pigeons.

Ok
it's not a bird it's a squirrel, but it was hanging out with the birds.

We
started with one small bird feeder hanging from the magnolia tree near
the back deck, but the birds were fighting so we decided to add a few
more feeding stations. This bluejay had lots of company in a big hurry.

We're
up to about 30 pounds of birdseed and a suet block every week.

This
hawk caught one of the Pelham Parkway squirrels off guard.

We've
seen him several times since early Feb. and think he's taken up permenant
residence in the Parkway.

The
best guess we can make from our bird book is that it's an immature Broad
Winged Hawk. If anyone has a better idea of its identity let us know.
