Patty came from Kansas to visit over Thanksgiving, and we started our adventure from the dark recesses of the Pelham Parkway number five station as we almost always do. Not a very crowded place Thanksgiving morning.
I was kindly informed by a gentleman on the street that I was taking a picture of the wrong building "That ain't the Empire State building, ya know..." and that is true. Do we qualify as locals because we also know it is the Chrysler building?
The real objective of our day's adventure was the Macy's Thanksgiving day parade. We were a little late, but at least we didn't miss Barney.

Frosty is checking out the score in the Rangers game as he passes through Times Square.
Clifford the big red dog made an appearance too.
Sue and Patty were actually frozen in this position after watching the parade.
The Flatiron building is also not the Empire state building, but it is recognized as the first skyscrapper in Manhattan.

The World Trade towers and several other buildings that are definitely not the Empire State building.
The statue of liberty is not even a building, and therefore very unlikely to be confused with the Empire State.
Finally a picture of the Empire State Building (left), but that pesky Chrysler building is sticking up in the middle of the picture too.
Sue and Patty on the Brooklyn bridge. The wind was blowing about a hundred miles an hour, but at least this time we were walking across the bridge in the "right" direction. After we got back to Manhattan, we went to the Met and then out to a Thai restaurant for Thanksgiving dinner.
What if you are the sick passenger?
The subway platform beneath Times Square.
We take everybody to this bar that sits up above Times Square and revolves. There are always a million things to watch down below.
After dinner at a French restaurant just a little further up the street we went to see Suessical the Musical.

Patty is laughing because she knows that I'm trying to sneak and take this picture before the gargantuan usher right behind me figures out what I'm doing.
Horton the elephant performing in Circus McGurkus. And of course from the elephant we can segue in to rhinos, and lions and tigers and bears.... a the Bronx Zoo
The Bronx zoo was open at night for a special festival of lights.
Everything was decorated and festive.

The next day it was raining, so we went to the Enid Haupt Conservatory of the New York Botanical gardens

The Botanical gardens were also decked out for the holidays, including a huge network of model railways (all constructed of wood chips and what appeared to be yard waste) that ran through several rooms of the conservatory and included little models of famous NYC buildings and landmarks
